The first thing that stood out during Senior Championship week was the exceptional condition of the golf course. Hosting a provincial championship puts a facility under a microscope, and Meadow Lake delivered.
The greens were immaculate, providing consistently smooth putting surfaces throughout the championship. They were firm enough to reward well-struck approach shots while still remaining receptive, and their consistency from the first hole through the 18th was particularly impressive.
The tee boxes were equally outstanding. They were healthy and beautifully maintained, giving competitors championship-quality starting points on every hole. Course conditioning at this level doesn’t happen by accident. It reflects the pride and commitment of the maintenance team, and Meadow Lake Golf Club deserves considerable credit for how well the property was presented for one of Golf Saskatchewan’s premier events.
Chris Reid, Meadow Lake Golf Club President, captured the 2026 Golf Saskatchewan Men’s Mid – Masters Championship with scores of 69, 73, 68 for a 5 stroke victory.
At a length of 6,432 yards from the back tees, Meadow Lake might not overwhelm golfers with excessive length, but that certainly doesn’t make it easy. Accuracy off the tee is extremely important.
Several holes feature narrow landing areas where simply pulling driver and swinging aggressively can quickly create problems, specifically the stretch of holes from #4 through #6. Golfers who consistently find fairways will have opportunities to score, but those who spray tee shots will discover that Meadow Lake can defend par very effectively.
That strategic element makes the course enjoyable for a wide range of golfers. Better players are challenged to select the proper club and shape shots into the ideal position, while recreational golfers can move forward a tee box and experience the same strategic characteristics without being overwhelmed by distance.

One of Meadow Lake Golf Club’s greatest strengths is its collection of challenging par 3 holes. These aren’t automatic pars. Each requires a quality iron shot, and during tournament conditions they can become some of the most important holes on the scorecard. A golfer standing on one of these tees needs to commit fully to the shot because hesitation or poor contact can quickly turn a potential three into a five.
A particular highlight during the championship setup was the par-3 12th, measuring from 160 to 193 yards from the back tee. At that distance, there is little room for error. It requires both distance control and accuracy, particularly when championship pressure enters the equation. The gradual slopes on the entire green provide an even greater challenge to make par. For competitive players, it is exactly the type of par 3 that creates separation on a leaderboard; for everyday golfers, it is simply an excellent test of long-iron or hybrid play.
Collectively, Meadow Lake’s par 3s are memorable, demanding and an important part of the course’s identity. Large putting surfaces welcome golfers on every par 3 hole.

We’re huge fans of golf courses that offer unique options for dining and that quick grab n’ go. During Championships week, all players enjoyed a Fish Fry, featuring some tasty Walleye with all the fixings. Not sure if fish is a regular menu item, but regardless, the restaurant staff do a fantastic job on delivering fantastic tasting meals. Also, big props to the restaurant for offering multiple flavors of ice cream on a daily.
The club also enjoys a strong local golf culture. Women’s and men’s league play remain extremely popular, creating the type of active membership atmosphere every community golf course wants. That local support is noticeable around the facility and contributes greatly to the friendly, welcoming environment.
